Welcome to Temuka Pottery

From the township of Temuka, on the South Canterbury plains, since 1931, New Zealand Insulators has proudly
designed & produced Temuka Pottery. A legacy and a responsibility.

Our brand is pure New Zealand heritage - and thousands of kiwi households use
Temuka Pottery on a daily basis. It lasts and lasts.

Of course many New Zealanders know Temuka Pottery as the curvy brown Riverstone series designed by the late Jack Laird of Nelson. Launched in 1971, the beautiful Riverstone sold millions of pieces.

Like most pottery ventures, Temuka has suffered at the hands of
very cheap imports - but the good news is that Temuka Pottery is still very much alive

We're working hard to see it become strong once more

Pivotal in this initiative has been the reopening of a Temuka Pottery Shop in Mendelson Barn on the State Highway One Bypass in Temuka. Operated under license by Charles & Amanda Scarsbrook, the owners of 100% Homemade Café - the new shop opened in March last year.

As you'll see in this website, we're developing the Temuka range, and during 2011 we hired three more local production staff as volumes have grown.

We welcome you to support our brand and enjoy our products - by visiting the Shop, or purchasing from this website.

Live Trials

Presently being trialled at the Shop - a set of four colours being trialled as a mix/match dinnerset, along with a floral pattern in blue/black. See pic below.

'Live Trials' are not available for purchase on this website - they're in the Shop to gauge their likely success (or otherwise) prior to launching an entire new range.

One thing our trials have told us - there is demand for our 1 litre jug across our designs, so you'll be seeing more of that shape in the future.

North Island Outlets

Discussions are now underway with a view to opening two new Temuka Pottery Cafes in the North Island, early 2013. Both are prime regional 'junction' locations - one in Manawatu, one in Waikato.
