Temuka Pottery Glazes

The glazes on Temuka ware are fired at the same time as the porcelain body to 1200 Deg.C. This ensures that the glazes are as hard and durable as it is possible to make them, and they become part of the porcelain. Because of this and the absence of water absorption the glazes will not craze in normal conditions.

Lead is not used in the glazes, which means they are always safe for cooking and for storage of foods.

Artisan Glaze Works

The artisans in our Palmerston North factory apply the glazes by hand creating the layered and textured effects. This craftsman's touch brings that hand-made quality to Temuka Pottery's current collection.

Custom Selection

Because Temuka Pottery is made here in New Zealand it becomes possible to make your own selection of glaze and shape combinations. In a Custom Selection you can choose from a vast range of glaze finishes and  all of our Temuka Pottery shapes. Custom selections attract a minimum order size and we will glaze them for you at our Palmerston North factory in sequence with other work on at the time.

Main Selection

This selection of our glaze and shape combinations are as well suited for buying in person as online. These glaze finishes replicate to their described range.  We offer this main selection in the Temuka Pottery Shop, online and within custom orders.

Boutique Selection

The Boutique Selection gathers for you some iconic glaze finishes with wild variations. Each piece presents its own character influenced by the firing process. Choosing from our Boutique Selection is a destination experience. Visit  the Temuka Pottery Shop, in Temuka to indulge in finding just the right character for your collection.
From time to time Boutique Selection pottery can be found on our website for sale. Photographs shown are indicative to the glaze finish and may vary from the finished work.

When selecting your glaze/shape combinations

We offer two glaze groups. D-group glazes fit well to all our Temuka shapes. S-group glazes are offered only on large and flatter, open pieces. These S-group glazes just don't do well on vertical or small pieces. We can help you choose.
